Northerners
Just a few points I'd like to make.
A lot of exposure is going on in the media today about the London suicide bombers being British Muslims. They seem to be missing a vitally important point.
I once had a converstion with a Geordie in a pub about football. I turned the conversation to the England team in an attempt to create some unity and avoid the potential violent confrontation that was brewing.
He informed me that he wasn't interested in England, because most people "down south" didn't even think Newcastle was part of the same country. A scuffle broke out later in the evening...
My point is, hasn't anyone else questioned why these lads didn't go and bomb Leeds city centre, Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool etc etc?
I know London is the capital of the country, but I don't think that's the reason. Northerners don't even believe were part of the same country as they are, and if you have an abstract ideal that's to do with abstractly killing people and going to an abstract place for an abstract paradise, you're not going to go kill people you understand or can relate to....
I'm not saying I hate northerners, or that we should go and attack Leeds or anything of the sort. I'm just putting forward an obvious explanation for events that other people seem to be overlooking.

A program on Radio Four last night discussed religious literalism and fanaticism and presented the idea that the suicide bombers are young, misguided, middle class Baader Meinhof types.
Sure, why did they come to London? But also, how were we supposed to know what they were protesting?
On R4 they were questioning why they came south. Maybe they are seeing division, antagonsim that London is 'in charge'? Sounds like the devolution argument.
But anyways, it's kind of pointless speculating until there is more information about their reasons.
Everyone already decided it was Al Quaeda before the news properly broke, so the issue is clouded.
It seems at present like an isolated and somewhat misguided mission. But let's wait and see.
Actuallly, I do hate northerners.
Why London? Well, as a nothern git meself who's lived & commuted in London for 8yrs aint it bleeding obvious?
Can anyone tell me another city in the UK that's got an underground system? or massively subsidised public buses? & where's the all UK's media based for quickest, blanket coverage? A single brain cell can probably work that out, even one wearing a weirdy beardy..
By the same quirky crisp-bread comment, why was Edgeware Road attacked originally when it's known as being an Arabian quarter? And back in the good ol' IRA days, why did they bomb Liverpool & Warrington (aka Dublin by the Sea). By the way, that Manchester bomb was best thing that's happened to the city centre in recent years (excusing the human tragedy of course), any southerner been there lately?
Back to your scary Geordie's comments about southerners, from my own experience I am amazed that so few southerners ever have gone north of Watford Gap - thought that was an urban myth.
Southerners? You gotta love 'em really, especially the hair styles.
Northerners? tis true, we do love gravy. And you need someone to do all the factory jobs, surely. And stop buying Peter Kay videos, they're all like that in Bolton - go get a free show sometime. In the rain of course.
